Two Zotero Questions?
Quote from YB on March 23, 2025, 2:03 pm
- What is the quickest way to upload folders and the documents in them from my hard drive into Zotero. I want to save them in my Zotero storage not link them. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that for whole folders.
- If there is no way to do that, what would be the quickest way to upload all the documents and get them into specific collections and subcollections? Instead of "add file" for each one into each separate collection, what about uploading all the files in bulk to a dedicated "move" collection and then once I am in Zotero send them to the approproiate colleection/subcollection? (This method seems quicker than dragging them)?
- Or should I link the files from my hard drive in bulk into the right collections/subcollections and then convert them to Zotero storage?
Thank you. Basically, I am trying to get the all folders and their data from my hard drive into Zotero and organized into my Zotero collections/subcollections as quickly as possible.

It looks to me like the Folder Import add-on they mentioned might be the best solution for bringing the material into Zotero from folders. I haven't tested it, but it sounds like it could save you a lot of time.
Otherwise, you might have to recreate your folders as collections in Zotero, one by one, and drag the contents over, a folder at a time. Dragging and dropping should make them stored files. Holding down your shift and control keys (on a PC) while you drop them makes them linked, instead.
I hope the add-on works.

Quote from YB on March 24, 2025, 2:24 pmThe tool does work. You can bulk upload all the files from a folder on your hard drive into your Zotero.
What I dont understand is how to add files from Google drive to Zotero storage quickly.
What would be the quickest way to upload files from Google drive into Zotero storage (not just linking the files)?

Quote from Donna Cox Baker on March 24, 2025, 3:06 pmDo you have Google Drive for Desktop installed on your computer? It will create a Google Drive folder in your PC's file manager. I haven't tried this, but in theory, the add-on should pull your material into Zotero through that. I'm curious to see if that works.

Quote from YB on March 24, 2025, 3:50 pmGreat. Thank you for telling me. I didnt have GoogleDrive for Desktop installed. I just installed it and tried it with Zotero's files upload tool and it worked!
It will make things so much quicker:)
