re: Using Zotero to store videos
Quote from YB on April 5, 2025, 4:10 pmI am wondering about other user's experiences storing videos in Zotero.
When I upload a longer video to Zotero (2.80GB) my Zotero crashed while uploading it (to my Zotero storage).
Then it crashed the next couple of times I opened Zotero after the upload.
I have a lot of longer videos I would like to store in Zotero.
Is that not a good idea because it will make Zotero library too large and cause problems down the road?
Should I link the videos from my hard drive instead and save them to some other cloud storage?
Thank you

Quote from Donna Cox Baker on April 6, 2025, 10:43 pmI am glad you brought this up. I once crashed mine trying to sync a huge map. With it trying to sync bidirectionally, you're almost sure to corrupt something if a file is that big. I wish I had thought to say as much in my book. You will definitely want to link out to massive files, rather than syncing to Zotero Storage. Zotero Storage is a mirror of the data on your hard drive, designed for syncing multiple computers together, having remote access to your data away from your hard drive, and it usually will be all you need to quickly restore data if you get a new computer. But it is not intended as a backup, even though it usually works as one. As a mirror, it will sync bad data as well as good, so you will always want a good backup to go to, if the mirroring picks up corruptions. Hope that helps!
