Current Version of "Zotero for Genealogy"

What is the most recent edition of "Zotero for Genealogy" and in which format(s) is that latest version available? If there is a reason to get a certain format, beyond wanting the most recent edition and simple personal preference, I would appreciate having that information.

History Hunter,

I don't think Donna has updated the original version of Zotero for Genealogy. She did release a new book called The Zotero Solution: Knowledge Management for the Scholarly Researcher (PDF Edition). I have the PDF versions of both which can be purchased on Donna's website. The link at the top Buy Now should take you there. I like the PDF versions but I have a friend who purchased the paperback of Zotero for Genealogy because she likes to have hard copies.

Ann

Ann;

Given the choice between electronic and paper, I am tending towards electronic. Last time I moved I had about 50 boxes of books. I'm not anxious to repeat that.

So; between PDF and Kindle formats, why did you choose PDF?

Is the second book you mentioned something I should get now or wait until I'm more comfortable with Zotero?

Well, Ann...

I bought the PDF online and had the payment confirmed, but am a bit surprised that it wasn't available for download about 2 hours later. Tried to contact Golden Channel using their contact page, but the form on that page appears to be malfunctioning.

Sure hope I get the PDF book soon. I'm anxious to get going on setting up my filing. :>)

History Hunter,

I purchased the pdf version because I like to open it up on my second monitor for reference when I am working on something and need to figure out how to do a task.

I believe the second book is geared more to the academic side. I haven't had a chance to work through it yet as I just purchased it not to long ago.

Thank you, Ann. I am finding the PDF version to work well and for the same reasons. Let me know how you find the second book.

(I have developed my research project template in Scrivener and linked in a test-copy to Zotero. I've called the main entry a "Manuscript" and linked the Scrivener file to it. So far so good. Now I need to look at the mechanics of doing citations and the bibliography using the two programs. I don't think you got into that too deeply in your workflow and the book doesn't get into this. So, I still have some thinking to do...)

My apologies to you guys that I have responded to several of these posts by email, not realizing that the answers were not posting to the forum. I will create a second edition of Zotero for Genealogy in the future. I'm holding back for now, hoping that the new major revision of Zotero will come soon and can be included. _The Zotero Solution_ does have some new material of value and then has some material more specific to academic research. The second edition of _Zotero for Genealogy_ will include the new material about Zotero functions from _The Zotero Solution_ and material that has not yet been in either one particularly about the add-on Zutilo.

Now that Zotero v. 6 is out, will Zotero for Genealogy 2nd edition be out soon?

Hi, eallynm. A revised edition is in the works, but I don't have the target date yet. A few things have pushed ahead of it.  The most significant changes (in terms of what will read differently than the book) are that a number of preferences that were once buried in a dialog called from the menu are now directly accessed in the menu--things like changing the font or layout of the screen. And the most significant change is in the handling of PDFs. Features that were once accessible through the Zotfile add-on can now be handled in tabs in the Zotero window.

If others of you have applied the Zotero for Genealogy book after Zotero 6.0 came out and know of other things that might have been confusing, we'd love to hear from you.
