Creating and using templates
Quote from LRogers on February 28, 2023, 5:52 amHello,
I have created a Templates folder and I have created some document census templates that I have preloaded with the proper information for that year. I tried to just move it to the new person and input the correct information and it changed the template as well. I guess I should have figured that out. So is there a better way to do this? I tried to duplicate it and then move the duplicate folder into the person and then went back and deleted the duplicate from the Template folder. I have also added standalone notes with the census source template. Again I just need to change the information to the current census/person. I am also duplicating this and then going back and deleted it from the template folder. Sometimes I tend to overthink things and I wonder if there is an easier way to accomplish this. Would love any suggestions that you may have. Below is an example of the census template:
Item Type Document Title 1850 U.S. Census, [County], [State], population schedule, {city], page [number (stamped)], dwelling [number], family [number], [name] household. Publisher Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2009. Database with images Date 1850-Jun-01 URL www.ancestry.com Archive Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d. Loc. In Archive NARA microfilm publication M432, 1,009 rolls. Below is an example of the standalone census template:

Quote from Donna Cox Baker on February 28, 2023, 7:31 amHi, Linda. A great project! In Zotero, dragging an item from one folder to another just creates a shortcut, so both icons point to the same document. There is a trick, though. Drag the item over where you want to drop it. Hold down the shift and control keys before dropping it. It will create a copy. Hope that works for you.
