90-60 Release 22.2 Notes
Quote from Donna Cox Baker on May 31, 2023, 11:37 pmAll release notes for the 22.2 series will be added to this page as new mini-releases are rolled out. The newest releases will be added to the top of the topic.
RELEASE 22.2.02 (March 11, 2024)
ENHANCEMENTS
22.2.02_E0001: New restoration options added for the opening sheet (9060OPEN) and the dashboard (9060DASH).
The options to restore these two sheets are available from the 90-60 Utilities menu.
22.2.02_E0002: Reduced blank rows in 9060COPY to reduce impact to Google Limit.
Google’s ten million cell limit counts every cell that shows, regardless as to whether it has content. To reduce the empty cells until they are needed, the hidden 9060COPY sheet has been reduced to a starting value of 306 rows. Any sheet created from this template can be expanded when more rows are needed.
22.2.02_E0003: Opening scripts were streamlined to open more quickly.
FIXES
22.2.01_0001: The 90-60 administration sheet (9060ADMN) and the dashboard (9060DASH) are now properly calculating the dashboard statistics.
The error that caused this problem might have written some trash into cells of a few of your other sheets, most likely utility sheets and not your census data. This fix cleans up any data in the places that are safe to overwrite. But no cleanup is being attempted in census sheets, where something you value is at risk. If trash has overwritten your work anywhere, you will see #ERROR appearing in a cell. With my apologies, you will need to recreate any overwritten cells in the rare case that this has happened.
22.2.01_0003: The intermittent sheet that displays during the Filter process has been corrected to display a message cautioning the customer not to halt the process before it is complete.
It had been displaying data in the processing stage and hiding the message.
22.2.01_0004: Data pulled in from Early Federal Census Worksheets (EFCWs) and reformatted were not sorting and filtering properly.
The reformatting process has been fixed for future imports. The existing sheets are repaired by the 22.2.02 update.
22.2.01_0006: The 90-60 was not allowing you to name census worksheets with numbers.
This has been corrected.
22.2.01_0007: In some cases the year ranges appearing in the header had changed sizes and were too large for the available space.
This has been resolved along with the reformatting of the header space.
22.2.01_0008: The Sort function has been corrected to remove an error message that was flashing at the end of the process in the statistics in the top-right corner.
22.2.01_0009: Minor issues with border formatting in the far-right fields (purple and gray) have been fixed in the Census Template sheet (9060TMPL).
Because they do not affect functioning, they will not be fixed on existing census sheets. All new records will draw the corrected formatting.
PERPETUAL WORKAROUNDS
A few things I desired to fix cannot be automated. Here are the issues and their perpetual workarounds.
22.2.01_0002: The sheet name is not being written into the top right field on the header immediately. It retains the original name of the copy sheet until it eventually corrects itself.
For reasons undetermined, it takes some time for a new sheet name to alter the label in the top-right corner of the census sheet. It will eventually repopulate the field on its own. To speed it, you can delete the label and get out of the header lines. It will force a refresh immediately in response to an attempt to change a header field.
22.2.01_0005: I would like to automatically notify 90-60 users if there is a newer version of the software code than they are currently using. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to ask customers to give me permissions to go outside your worksheet with the coding--a concession I do not want to ask.
Perpetual Workaround: On the dashboard (9060DASH), a link labeled “Check Current Release” takes you to the section of the online documentation that announces the current version. If you see that your version is behind, but you have not received the new code from Genohistory.com, contact me at Donna.Baker@genohistory.com. Please tell me the email address you used to purchase the software originally. Thank you.
RELEASE 22.2.01 (June 3, 2023)
22.2.01_0001: Incorrect statistics updating in the Dashboard and Administration pages.
9060DASH and 9060ADMN are pulling incorrect statistics and failing to recalculate after opening the workbook. The 9060COBU sheet’s statistics need to be added to the 9060ADMN “at Delivery” stats.
Fixed: The DASH issue has been fixed permanently, along with the addition of the COBU sheet to the statistics. The GetSheetLists() function has been altered to reduce the calculations required for the ADMN sheet, which should make it less likely the DASH will freeze up on the stats.
22.2.01_0002: Sort Records is not properly displaying the statuses in the top-right boxes (GM2 & GM3).
Fixed to include the current record count in the calculation, creating a proper percentage complete.
RELEASE 22.2.00
22.1.00_0001: Reformat Selection or Reformat Full Sheet utilities may abort while unfinished or stop with "Exception: Those Rows are out of bounds" when processing a sheet with many records.
Google has placed time limits on the processing of scripts like this one.
Fix: This can be worked around in one of two ways:
First option: Use the Reformat Selection utility and select smaller batches within a large document.
Second option: Move part of your records to a separate census sheet and run the Reformat Full Selection utility on both parts. Then move all of the records back together.
I have added several checks as this utility launches to alert users to this size issue and to warn of running the utility when in something other than a census worksheet.
22.1.00_0002: The Reformat Full Sheet utility restarts the ID counter at numbers already used.
Fix: This has been fixed in both of the Reformat utilities to properly update the system ID counter. If an earlier run has assigned duplicate IDs, it will not currently affect any of the 90-60’s functions. But if you want to renumber your IDs, delete the ID column’s contents and run the Reformat Full Sheet utility.
22.1.00_0003: The Complete Sort & Filter Data (Selection--Overrides) utility is running the utility on all records in the sheet, rather than a selection.
Fix: If the cursor is sitting in a single cell, the system assumes that you want to run the utility on the whole sheet. If you want to select a certain subset of records, select by clicking on the number to the left of the first desired row, hold down your shift key, then select the number beside the final row in your selection.
22.1.00_0004: The online help in the FT column (Totals) has a typographical error in the first sentence. (Manual fix required.)
Fix: New versions of the 90-60 come with this fixed. This cannot be automatically fixed on existing sheets without relaxing the security on your Google files, something neither of us want you to do. Also, if users have manually added text to the help messages attached to the headings, the user text would be wiped out by any programmatic interference. However, you can simply click into the note and correct it manually, if desired.
NOTE: Any other typographical errors that I have seen in the online documentation have been corrected upon discovery. Only the online help sitting in the notes on your 90-60’s sheet headers are protected by Google security authorization protocols.
22.1.00_0005: The Comments field is not wrapping text.
The comments boxes on each census record were aligned vertically centered and not wrapping, so only one line shows after you exit the field.
Fix: The Comments field in the Template sheet (9060TMPL) has been corrected to wrap text and to sit at the top of the box, rather than the center. The “Apply New Releases -- Release 2.22.00” utility will go through and correct this in existing sheets.
22.1.00_0006: The formats for all censuses but 1810 and 1820 have a faulty formula in column FU that is triggering the red error indicator.
Fix: The calculations have been corrected in the template sheets. The Apply New Releases—Release 22.2.0 (General) utility will correct existing formulas in your spreadsheets.
Exception: If a sheet has a lot of records, depending on your system resources, Google might abort the general release utility before it is complete. Should that happen, you can run the Single Sheet version of that utility from your 90-60 menu to limit the time required to the single sheet.
22.1.00_0007: (Note Only) 1790 Census--White Males have age categories reversed in federal census.
Fix: It is necessary for data in the 90-60 to be entered from the youngest ages to the left, oldest to the right. But in the 1790 census, the older white male category was first, followed by the younger ones. The template has been changed to offer a note, warning users to do this correctly. The note cannot be added to sheets you are already using, without opening a security door in Google that I am committed to leaving closed, for your welfare. Instead, the label in the gray area before the 1790 data will contain a note to warn of the situation, added through the Apply New Releases utility. The utility will not attempt to correct the tallies you have already put into cells on 1790 records since some might have matched the census and others might have conformed to the 90-60 labels. You will need to manually change the tallies to the proper column, if they’ve been done incorrectly.
22.1.00_0008: The Sort Sheet utility is aborting with an "Exception: Range Not Found" error.Fix: The error's cause has been found and the correction is included in Release 22.2.0. Like other complex processes, if executed on very large sheets, Google will end the process at six minutes. Use the Restart Sort utility, to finish an aborted sort process22.1.00_0009: The Census Day converts to an integer from the ddmmm format when copying a sheet from one workbook to another.
Workaround: This is only an issue when one 90-60 sheet is moved into another workbook and works as Google designed it. To work around it, run the Utilities—ReformatFullSheet utility to reformat the Census Day cell.
22.1.00_0010: County field does not sort properly.
This has happened when the Sort & Filter data has been automatically extracted from a record that has a locality, county, and state. It has left a space in front of the county, causing the incorrect sorting.
Fixed: This has been corrected for all future census record creation efforts. To fix records that already exist, you can run the Complete Sort & Filter (Override) utility. Be aware, though that it will override things you have manually altered. You can do a record at a time with the normal Sort & Filter process. Or you can manually delete the space in front of the county name.
22.1.00_0011: New Census Sheet function contains old data.
When creating a new census sheet through the menu (Manage Sheets—Add a Census Sheet), the user might accidentally paste information into the 9060COPY template before it closes. In future attempts to create new census sheets, the old data is copied into the new sheet from the 9060COPY template.
Fix: The Release 22.2.00—Structure utility adds a way to restore the 9060COPY (Utilities—Restore Copy Sheet) sheet to its original form. It will also run this utility to clear any old data in the existing workbook.
All release notes for the 22.2 series will be added to this page as new mini-releases are rolled out. The newest releases will be added to the top of the topic.
