90-60 Census Workbook Reverses Column Order in 1790 Census
Quote from Donna Cox Baker on December 10, 2024, 2:09 amMany thanks to Tom Williams, a 90-60 Census Workbook user, for suggesting a note be added to the 1790 census template. The workbook reverses the two White Males age categories to align the 1790 data with later censuses, as the government uniquely listed these columns oldest to youngest in 1790. A warning note will be added for future downloads of the 90-60 Census Workbook. For existing workbooks, you can follow these steps to update the template:
- Open your 90-60, and click the "All Sheets" icon (three parallel lines in the bottom left).
- Click to open the "9060TMPL" sheet.
- Scroll to the 1790 census. In the White Males section, select the gray cell left of the two age range cells and type:These two age categories are reversed from the original census to align with all other census years.
- Re-hide the template by clicking the "9060TMPL" tab’s down arrow and selecting "Hide Sheet."
Hopefully, that will prevent a misreading of the 1790 household inhabitants.
